Georges Rouault (1871-1958), a famous French painter, reveals the transforming power of faith in Christ Jesus. As one looks at the history of his work, it is interesting to note that in his early period, he depicted human degradation through scenes of prostitutes, fugitives, and accused individuals in court. In 1913, he painted Christ on the Cross, and began a period in his artistic output that was more hopeful in its themes. Believing in the resurrection of Jesus, his work eventually focused more on religious themes, finding expression through circus motifs.
