A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
It was dark in the hills of Judea
where the shepherds were guarding their sheep.
And the sounds of the night,
to the shepherd’s delight,
were of peace and of rest and of sleep.
Then, high o’er the hills of Judea,
like the sun at the peak of the day,
came a marvelous light
and the shepherds in fright,
fell down on the ground in dismay.
And out of the skies of Judea
came a voice saying, 'Fear not at all.'
Such a wonderful sound
filled the earth all around.
The shepherds looked up at the call.
where the shepherds were guarding their sheep.
And the sounds of the night,
to the shepherd’s delight,
were of peace and of rest and of sleep.
Then, high o’er the hills of Judea,
like the sun at the peak of the day,
came a marvelous light
and the shepherds in fright,
fell down on the ground in dismay.
And out of the skies of Judea
came a voice saying, 'Fear not at all.'
Such a wonderful sound
filled the earth all around.
The shepherds looked up at the call.
