Angel cookies
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: One of the main characters in Luke's Christmas story
is the angel. The angel's role was to tell the shepherds to go
find the Messiah. Bring some angel-shaped cookies that have not
yet been iced to class. Bring white icing with you. Also bring
food coloring, or bring different colors of icing in separate
containers. Have table knives for putting icing on the cookies.
Tell your students Luke's Christmas story, stressing the important role of the angel. Pass out the cookies, icing and knives. Help your students put the icing on their angels.
Here are some directions to make icing:
6 T. butter or stick margarine
4 3/4 C. confectioners' sugar
1/4 C. milk
1 1/2 t. vanilla
Mix ingredients
Parents: Look for cookies with religious themes in your Christmas cookie assortments. Have your child help you look for them with you. These cookies could include angels, (highlighted in Luke's Christmas story), stars, wise men, sheep, or the baby in the manger. Ask your child to tell you the Christmas story from the Bible, using the cookies as special props.
