My doctor is a very, very busy person who has to see many sick
people and give checkups for people requiring them. If I want to
see my doctor, I have to make an appointment. I do that when I
call the office or stop by. A receptionist writes my name down
for a visit time on a certain date at a certain time. This way I
know that I will get to see the doctor at that time. We call this
"my appointment."
Did you know that Jesus has an appointment, too? He does. Jesus has an appointment with YOU and YOU and YOU and ME!
Jesus knows your name and has appointed you to serve him with your lives. Jesus knows your name and my name and calls us his disciples. We are just like the Apostle Paul who wrote the First Letter to Timothy. We are thankful -- "grateful" -- to Christ Jesus our Lord who appointed us to do his work on this earth.
What kind of "work" does Jesus want us to do? (Let them answer. Suggest things such as taking care of a younger brother or sister, sharing, listening to parents, telling friends stories about Jesus, and being a helper at home, school, or church.)
Dear God: We are thankful that you have trusted us enough to do the important work of the church. Thanks for appointing each of us! Amen.
