Appreciating our baptism
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Generally, not much thought is given to
our own baptism except perhaps when we see a baptism or we hear a
sermon on the subject. Baptism, however, is something that our
children need to be reminded of so they will appreciate the work
of the Holy Spirit who comes to us in baptism, enlivens our
spirit, and forgives our sins as Peter says in Acts 2:38,
"Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit."
*Ask the children to draw a picture of themselves being
baptized and then have each show the picture and talk about it.
Lead the discussion into a better understanding of the benefits
of baptism.
*Ask the children to complete the statement, "I'm glad I'm
baptized because...." When they finish, discuss as many of the
answers as you have time for.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing a baptismal hymn.
*Read the Gospel account of the baptism of Jesus, and answer
questions the children may have about it.
