The babysitter is coming!
Children's sermon

Good morning, boys and girls. Have any of you ever had a
babysitter come to your house? (Let them answer.) When the
babysitter comes, it is on an evening when your parents go
somewhere by themselves, isn't it? I hope that when a babysitter
comes to your house it is a time that you really look forward to
happening. Sometimes babysitters bring a movie to watch, or a
book to read or a game to play. I want to tell you about a family
who needed a babysitter.
There was a family with a mom and a dad and some young children. The parents needed to go away for the evening. They told their children that they needed to go away. The children were very sad. They were a little frightened. They didn't want their parents to go. Then their parents told the children not to worry. A special person was coming to take care of them while the parents were gone. This special person was anxiously waiting to come to their house. This person was their favorite babysitter. The babysitter would take care of the children in their parents' absence. When the children heard this, they were relieved. Their fears disappeared. They trusted their parents. They knew that their parents would do the right thing if they ever left the children alone. The special babysitter was someone who the children would anxiously await. The children knew that they would have a good time with their babysitter.
This story reminds me of this morning's lesson. Jesus tells his disciples that he is going to leave them. The disciples become very upset and sad when they hear this. Then, Jesus tells them some good news. Jesus says that he is not going to leave them alone. Someone is coming to take care of them. That someone is the Holy Spirit of God. When the disciples hear this, they feel better.
The Holy Spirit came to the disciples on a day called Pentecost. Christians celebrate that day today. The Holy Spirit is still with Christians. It is in our church today. I want you to remember that you are never alone. The Holy Spirit that Jesus said would come is with us.
