Be happy!
Children's sermon
Object:
A picture of a clown
Good morning! Have you ever been to a circus? (Let them
answer.) What are some of the things that you see at a circus?
(Let them answer.) At every circus, one thing you always see is
one of these. (Show the picture.) Every circus has clowns, and
clowns always seem to be happy. They seem to have a lot of fun,
and they make us feel happy. Do you suppose there are times when
the clowns are really unhappy because of some problem, but they
still act happy? (Let them answer.) Yes, I'm sure that happens.
They may be really sad, but they continue to act happy because
that's their job.
The Bible tells us that we should always be happy too, even
at times when we have problems. Paul wrote that we should
"rejoice in the Lord always." Even when things are going very
badly for us, we always have a reason to be happy. What is it we
should feel good about even if something is causing us some pain
or unhappiness? (Let them answer.) No matter how bad things may
seem, we have God's promise that He will be with us always to
strengthen us and comfort us. And God has promised us that no
matter what happens to us in this life, we will be with Him in
heaven forever when this life is over. Isn't that something to be
happy about even if things seem very bad? (Let them answer.) Yes,
of course it is. Let's thank God for His wonderful promises.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for promising to be with us
always, even when things seem to be going very badly for us. Help
us to rejoice in Your presence and Your promises always. Amen.
