Be happy!
Children's sermon
Object:
a children's meal box or bag from a fast-food restaurant
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you enjoy eating at
(name the restaurant)? That's where this is from (hold the box).
Whenever I go there to eat I see children eating one of these
meals. What is so great about this meal? (Let them answer.) You
get a prize with the meal and that makes you happy.
I believe that anyone who would get a prize for eating would be happy. The box makes me think about Christians. Christians are like people who get a (name the meal). Christians are pretty happy people also, aren't we?
I want to tell what Paul told Christians. Paul said that a true Christian is the happiest person in the world. Christians are happy, not because we have all the luck in the world, or all the money in the world. Christians are happy because we thank God for all that God does for us. When we think about all the good things that God does for us, we have reasons to be happy.
Paul told Christians to rejoice all the time. Paul said not to worry, but whenever you pray, tell God about what you need. Paul said to be kind to others and to think about good things.
Paul also said that people who think about bad things all the time, usually have something bad happen or things go wrong in life. People who think about themselves all the time are usually pretty selfish people. That's why we need to think about good things. When we think good thoughts, we become happy, friendly people. Paul says that is what God wants us to do.
I want you to know that this does not mean that a Christian has no troubles, fears, sorrows or disappointments. We do, just as other people do. The difference between Christians and other people is that Christians have joy. When we think good thoughts, God's peace is with us. When God's peace is with us, others around us feel those good thoughts.
This week remember to be happy. When you are happy God's peace will be with you.
