"Be ready!"
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Advent is a time of preparation. The
Gospel reading stresses the importance of being ready when the
Lord comes back at the end of time. Being ready means being a
believer! Those who have faith will be saved and those who refuse
to believe will be condemned. We have an opportunity now to show
the children the importance of clinging to their faith in a time
that is more and more being called the "Post-Christian Era."
*Play a game with the children all in a circle. Use a large
ball or other object labeled "UNBELIEF." Pass the ball around the
circle and have a timer set to go off every minute or so. The
person holding the ball when the timer goes off drops out.
Continue the play until only three children are left. Talk with
the children after the game is over about the importance of not
being found with unbelief when the Lord returns.
*Tell the children that we are going to plan a trip to a
faraway place. Ask them to list the things they want to pack for
this trip and list these things on a board or easel. When
finished, ask them how many of the things listed can be taken
with them to Heaven. None can be taken, of course, but what do we
have to have with us to make the trip to Heaven? Make sure they
see that the one essential thing needed is faith!
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing an Advent hymn that speaks to the theme of being
prepared for the coming of Jesus.
