Be ready bookmark
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: This week's lesson theme is "be ready for Jesus'
return." To help your students understand being prepared, you
might point out to them the season changes now underway. Bring
some examples to class. Bring fallen leaves, milkweed pods,
buckeyes or other nuts fallen from trees. Nature appears to be
preparing for a change at the moment.
Help your students create a "Be ready" bookmark. If possible, students could make one for each member of her family. The bookmarks could be made for Bibles or for any book read currently at home. Provide paper or card stock an appropriate size (try 8 by 3 1/2). Suggest each bookmark state "Matthew 25:1-13." An appropriate phrase to write on bookmarks is: "Be ready for Jesus' return," or "Keep awake." Designs could reflect the season change, since nature is getting ready for a new season.
As an additional exercise, once the bookmarks are ready, give students Bibles and help them find verse 25 in Matthew.
Try musical chairs - Depending on the age of your class, another exercise in being prepared is to play a game of musical chairs. All children love this game.
Parents: Your child learned that it is important to be prepared for Jesus' return. Help your child find Matthew 25 in your Bible. If you are not planning to use the child's bookmark, use it to mark this verse in your Bible. Take time during this seasonal change to take a nature walk with your child. Point out the changes nature is making in preparing for winter. Watch for beautiful fallen leaves. If you can find a tree that is recently cut, try to count the tree rings.
Note about next week's activity: See if you can obtain names and addresses of recent visitors to your church. These will be used for the activity for November 21.
