pictures of brides
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from
God, prepared as a bride, adorned for her husband. (v. 2)
Good morning, boys and girls. Today we are going to see some wonderful pictures of beautiful women. Women are very pretty, aren't they? How many of you think your mother is beautiful? (let them answer) I want you to take a look at the pictures that I have set up on this table and tell me what they all have in common. (let them answer) That's right, they are all brides. Let me ask you one thing, "Are brides beautiful"? Do any of the girls here this morning want to be brides someday? (let them answer) That's right, boys. We will never be brides.
The Bible talks about brides. It talks a lot about one bride in particular. Jesus said the church is his bride. Did you know that? (let them answer) Jesus said that he is the groom, the husband of the bride, the church. There is like a big wedding between Jesus and the church.
Do you see the beautiful dresses the brides wear? (let them answer) Do you see how beautiful the bride's hair is fixed? Not one curl is out of place. The bride is perfect and she and a lot of people help to make her look the most beautiful she will ever be on that day.
Jesus wants a perfect church and someday it is going to be perfect. For all of the Christians who wait on Jesus, there will be a day when everything is going to be perfect in the church. There will be no pain, no suffering, no hunger, no thirst, no injury, and no death. The church will be perfect for Jesus. It will be like the groom welcoming the bride.
We are going to be a part of that church. It will be a brand new church. It will be a gift from God and all of the sins will be forgiven and put away. It will be a time of great happiness and people will sing to beautiful music and you will never be tired. Christ Jesus will be with us every day and we will live with him forever.
We call that time "living in heaven." We don't know when it is going to happen. It will be a big surprise to each of us, but it is going to happen.
The next time you see a picture of a bride or you go to a wedding, I want you to take a good look at the bride. She will be the most beautiful woman at the wedding. She will have on a grand dress and her hair will be fixed like a queen's hair. While you are looking at her, think about the things that Jesus says. Some day our church will be a perfect church and Jesus will be the groom and the church will be his bride. Amen.
Before you go back to your seats I want to say something to you, "Christ is risen! (let the children repeat their answer, "Christ is risen indeed!" three times)
