Beautiful shoes
Children's sermon
Object:
a pair of worn out shoes
Good morning, boys and girls. All of you know the story about
Cinderella and the glass slipper. In the story there was only one
person who could fit in the glass slipper. The slipper was very
beautiful. What if I told you that everyone here has beautiful
shoes and beautiful feet, just like Cinderella? (Let them
answer.) This morning I brought a pair of shoes (show the shoes)
that may not look like glass slippers, but are very important
shoes. These are very beautiful shoes, even though they don't
look beautiful.
Why do you think that I believe these are beautiful shoes? (Let them answer.) Even though these are worn out and tired looking shoes they are beautiful for one reason. These worn out old shoes might have been worn by a Christian who was spreading the good news of Jesus. Imagine if the person who wore these shoes spent time visiting elderly people who lived alone and were not able to come to church. Imagine if the person who wore these shoes healed people who were sick. Imagine if the person who wore these shoes took care of young children who lived in orphanages. Imagine if the person who wore these shoes told other people about God's love and about Jesus. Imagine if the person who wore these shoes was friendly to people who didn't have any friends. (You can add additional things to this list.)
If this pair of shoes was worn by the person who did that, you can imagine why the shoes are so worn. But, that's why this pair of shoes looks beautiful to a person who follows and loves Jesus. Today's lesson tells us: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" That means that people who tell others about Jesus and who do things that Jesus would want us to do are wonderful, beautiful people. Remember this week that we are to share the good news of Jesus with other people. When we do that we have beautiful feet and beautiful shoes!
