The best bubble
Children's sermon
Object:
bubble gum
Good morning, boys and girls. Do any of you like to blow
bubbles with gum? (Let them answer.) Which one of you thinks you
can blow the best bubble? (Let them answer. Choose an older youth
to try.) I brought some bubble gum. In a minute we'll let (name
the youth) try to blow a really good bubble. I like to blow
bubbles. I can sometimes blow bubbles this big. (Exaggerate with
your hands.) Can any of you blow bubbles this big? (Let them
answer.) I thought so.
Do you know what we are doing when we talk about how big we can blow bubbles? We are boasting. We are taking pride in how well we blow bubbles. It's okay to do that. Everyone boasts about something. Some people boast about how great their parents are. Have any of you ever told anyone that your mom and dad are the best mom and dad in the world? (Let them answer.) It's okay to do that. You are boasting. In the lesson this morning Paul boasts about God. Paul said that God is the source of all our lives. Paul said, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord." Here's what that means for us. Just as you boast about how big of a bubble you can blow, or how great your mom and dad are, you can boast about God. Tell everyone you see that God is great. Can you do that this week? When you do that people will stop and think about God and how great God is.
(Give the bubble gum to one child.) Now let's see what a great bubble (name of child) can blow. (Let the child chew the gum and try a bubble. When the bubble pops, congratulate the child and "boast" how great the bubble was.)
Remember, everyone boasts. Paul tells us to boast about how great God is.
