Better than they
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Teach the meaning of the word "humility"
and what it means to be "humble." A humble person is real.
Bring an everyday dinner plate and a fancy china plate to your class. "Which one would you feel most comfortable eating from?" you can ask. They will likely say, "The plain plate." "Why is that?" you can ask. The answer, of course, is that an everyday plate can be very useful and you don't have to fear dropping it and breaking it. It is more useful to children to use an everyday plate rather than a piece of expensive china.
People can be like a piece of fancy china or like an ordinary plate. If we think of ourselves as better than others, we will be very lonely. But if we see ourselves as sinners, like everyone else in the eyes of God, then God and others can have a chance with us.
Real people know that all of us are more essentially alike than unalike and none of us is better in the eyes of God than another.
