Biggest gift in the Bible
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: Tell your students the story about the widow giving
all that she had. Give each student a paper plate and either
crayons or colored markers. From the plate help the children
create the "biggest one cent coin" ever. Here are some things you
might suggest that students put on their coin: A picture of the
widow placing money in the offering plate. Write the phrase, "She
gave everything she had." Write the Bible verse, Mark 12:38-44.
Make certain that the coin states that it is worth one cent.
On the other side of the coin students may want to draw a picture of your church building. To help them in the coin project, show them a penny, nickel, dime, quarter and perhaps a half-dollar. This will give them an idea of what goes on coins.
Parents: Your child heard about the poor widow who gave all she had. This week you might want to give your tithing envelope to your child to place in the offering. You might even want to have or help your child fill out the information on the tithing envelope. This is a good opportunity to explain to your child why and how your own family supports the church financially. While much of this may be personal information, your child may wonder what the offering is about. This is a good time to try to explain it.
