Blessed are the persecuted
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers and Parents: A little-known fact about Christian
persecution is that more people have died for the faith in the
twentieth century than in all the rest of the church's history.
Our children may well grow up in a society that more and more
will persecute those who hold to strong moral concepts as taught
by the Christian faith. In this kind of environment, the children
need to hear the words of Jesus that remind them of their
blessings in the midst of persecution.
* Ask the children to draw pictures of Christians being
persecuted, and then let them share their pictures and explain
what they have drawn.
* Ask the children to name an event that occurred in their
lives where they felt they were persecuted for being Christian.
* Do a role-play with one child acting the part of a
government official in the Roman Empire insisting that the
Christians renounce Jesus and worship the Emperor. Let the
children playing the part of Christians defend their beliefs to
this persecutor.
Sunday school assembly opening:
* Show a world map with the countries where Christians are
being persecuted today underlined or colored red. Discuss the
persecution our fellow Christians are facing in these countries.
* Sing "Onward Christian Soldiers."
