Blessed you are
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: Before class, ask if each child can bring a baby picture or another picture that can be used for this project. (Or you may want to take some photographs of several children at a time and then cut each face out separately.) They will each be making a Christmas ornament with their picture on it. Make a long oval shape in the shape of a baby wrapped in a blanket about four inches long by two inches wide. Bring some white scraps of cloth to use for swaddling cloths. Have each child glue their picture where the head would be on the baby shape. Glue some polyester stuffing to give the baby some shape. Wrap it in "swaddling cloths." Glue the ends together so the cloths stay secure over the stuffing. While you are working on this project, talk about how special babies are. Jesus was a special baby and so is each baby that is born. Each child may have some "when I was born" stories they have heard their parents tell. Encourage them to share their stories. Before you send the ornament home, tie a piece of yarn to it for hanging either through the top of the picture or as a rocking ornament with yarn from both ends.
Parents: Share stories with your child of when they were born and how you felt. Tell them how special they are. There's no better present than self-esteem.
