Children of God
Children's sermon
Object:
a birth certificate and a baptismal certificate
Good morning! Have you ever seen one of these? (Show them
the birth certificate and let them answer.) This is a birth
certificate. It's an official record and it has a lot of
information on it. One of the things it shows is the parents of
the child. See, it shows here the names of the parents so that we
know whose child this is. Have you ever seen your own birth
certificate? (Let them answer.)
Now, I also have here another certificate. What kind of a
certificate is this one? (Let them answer.) Yes, this is a
baptismal certificate. This also has a lot of information,
including the names of the person's parents, but we also have
another parent when we are baptized. Whose children are we when
we are baptized? (Let them answer.) Yes, we are God's children.
In a way, we could say that we are actually brothers and sisters
of our own parents because we are all children of God. Everyone
who believes in Jesus and is baptized is a child of God, so that
makes all believers our brothers and sisters. That gives us a
whole lot of brothers and sisters, doesn't it? (Let them answer.)
How do you feel about being one of God's children? Does that
make you happy? (Let them answer.) Yes, of course it makes us
happy. Let's thank God for making us His children.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for making us Your children
and for promising us that we will be with You in Heaven because
we believe in Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
