Christ the King
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: On this last Sunday in the church year,
we honor Christ the King. In a democracy, children are not well
acquainted with the concept of kingship. This Sunday gives us an
opportunity to emphasize the importance of being in submission to
Christ as our king and to do his will in this world even though
most of the world rejects his kingship.
*Have the children make paper crowns and wear them. Talk
about what it means to have a king. What are the subject's duties
toward a king? What are our duties toward Christ the King?
*What is a king? Ask the children to draw a picture of a
king. Then have as many as time allows show their picture and
explain what they have drawn.
*Bring pictures of kings from other countries. Explain to
the children what these kings do in their own countries. Then ask
the children to explain how the role of Christ the King differs
from human beings.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing "Crown Him With Many Crowns" or another hymn that
emphasizes the kingship of Jesus.
*See how many countries the children can name where there is
a king currently reigning. List them on the board or easel. Talk
to them about the difference between human kings and Christ, our
King.
