Christ is risen!
Children's sermon
Object:
A picture of the empty tomb
Good morning! Who can tell me what we are celebrating today?
(Let them answer.) That's right! Today is Easter, and who can tell
me what happened on Easter that makes us happy today? (Let them
answer.)
On the first Easter morning, nearly 2,000 years ago, Jesus
rose from the dead. He had died on the cross and was laid in a
tomb like the one in this picture. (Show the picture.) What do you
see in this picture? Can you describe what you see? (Let them
answer.)
The most important thing we see in this picture is that the
tomb where Jesus was laid after he died is empty! He is no longer
there! He has risen from the dead! Now, why do you think that fact
is so important to us? Why are we all so happy on Easter Day? (Let
them answer.)
The thing we are most happy about is that, since Christ was
raised from the dead, we who believe in him will also be raised
from the dead. We don't have to be afraid of death because we have
God's promise that he will raise us from our tombs, just like he
did Jesus. Isn't that something to be happy about? (Let them
answer.)
Dearest Father in Heaven: We praise you for raising Jesus from the
dead and promising to raise all of us so that we can be with you
in heaven forever. Amen.
