Christian tennis
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: Tennis is the game for Christians. It has "love" and
"serving" in it. This week's lesson teaches us to resolve our
problems with others. Sometimes to do that we must be loving and
we must serve others. Explain that to your students.
Here's how to set up this version of "Christian tennis." You need an empty egg container and some marbles. Open the container lid. Write on the inside "I am with you." These are the words Jesus told his disciples in the lesson. Explain to your students that this is a game where everyone wins. Each student will have a turn in tossing a marble into the container. Tell them that when it is their turn, they are "serving" others. When marbles land in the container the students are spreading "love" to others who need it.
Give your students as many "servings" as you wish. When they are finished have them count the marbles in the container to see how many people received their "love." Remind them that when two or more Christians are together (like in your class) that Jesus is with you in your attempt to serve and spread love.
If you have students of various ages, consider setting a different distance from the serving line for each age group. The teacher should be able to serve and give love also.
Parents: Your child played "Christian tennis." It involves serving and loving others. These can be two elements of resolving conflicts, explained in last week's lesson.
Let your child explain how the game is played -- using marbles and an empty egg container. Set the game up in your house and involve all family members in a game. When it is someone's turn, that person is "serving" others. As each marble falls into the container "love" is being served and love is being spread.
