Christians help others
Children's sermon
Object:
an offering envelope
Good morning, boys and girls. (Hold up the envelope and pass
it around.) I brought an offering envelope to show you this
morning. There's a part in our service when the ushers pass
around offering plates. Many people in our church use these
envelopes at that time. They put money in the envelopes. Do your
parents sometimes let you put the envelope in the offering plate?
The money that is collected is used in many ways. It is used to
help people who need food, clothing, school supplies and medicine
in mission areas of our own church. It is also used in our
church. It helps buy Sunday school supplies and many other
things. Giving money is one way we can help in the work of our
church by sharing our gifts with others. There are many other
ways to share our faith.
I want to tell you about two people who attended the same church. You tell me which one shared her Christian faith in the correct way. When someone in the church was sick, the first person always visited the sick person. This church member invited others to attend church, enjoyed teaching Sunday school when asked, and tried to do whatever she could to share her faith. The second person was not interested in visiting sick people. This person was too busy to teach Sunday school. This person didn't want to invite others to church. Which of the two shared her faith in the best way? (Let them answer.) The first woman shared her faith best, didn't she?
This week I want you to remember that the real way to show that you are a Christian is not in the words you say. The real way is how you act to others. It is when you help others who need help. It is when you volunteer to do things for others. It is when you do more than others. Christians show their love through kindness to people who need our help. The next time you put your parents' offering envelope in the offering plate remember that is one way you are helping people who need your help.
