Come to me!
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: The invitation of Jesus to come to him
when we are thirsty needs to be said again and again. He is the
source of all good things. Our children need to be aware that
they need to turn to Jesus for help, for comfort, for knowledge,
and in the time of temptation. The world will be encouraging them
to come to many other places in their time of need, but we must
show them that it is to Jesus that they need to go.
*Put on a table the Bible, an encyclopedia, a novel, a
school textbook, and a computer program disk. Ask a volunteer to
come up and select one of these as a source of knowledge about
God and Jesus. When they have picked the Bible, discuss with them
the importance of finding out about God in the Bible instead of
secular literature.
*Have the children draw a picture showing someone they would
ask to help them if they were in trouble. Some may draw policemen
or parents or doctors or pastors. Then have them show their
picture and explain it. Some may draw a picture of Jesus. If not,
suggest Jesus to them as the one who is always ready to help and
discuss why we should go to him.
*Line up some cans or bottles of soft drinks and have the
children pretend that they are very thirsty and haven't had
anything to drink for a long time. Then have them vote on their
favorite soft drink. After the favorite is selected, ask them if
they will ever get thirsty again after they drink it. When they
agree that they will get thirsty again, ask them if they know of
any drink that they can drink which will quench their thirst
forever. Show them a bottle labeled "JESUS" and tell them if we
go to him with our thirst for knowledge of God, we will never be
thirsty again.
