Dear Galatians
Children's sermon
Object:
A letter
How many of you have gotten a letter addressed just to you?
(Let them answer.) How did that letter begin? (Let them answer.)
Most letters we receive start with the word "Dear ..." and then
our name. Here's a letter I received recently. It begins, "Dear
..."
A long time ago one of Jesus' followers named Paul wrote a letter to some people living in a place called "Galatia." But Paul begins his letter with more than just "Dear Galatians ..." Listen to the way Paul begins his letter:
"To the churches of Galatia: Grace to you and peace from God ..."
Paul uses two words in many of his letters. They are the words "grace" and "peace." These two words are big words for us Christians. Grace is all the good and free things God gives us -- especially giving us Jesus who is our Lord and Savior. Peace is also all the good and free things God gives us -- especially the absence of conflict and the good life we live.
The letter of Paul to the Galatians is not just to the people who lived a long time ago in a place called "Galatia." It is also a letter to us. God wants us to know about God's grace and peace just as God wanted the Galatians long ago to know about it.
Let me end by saying to you: Grace and Peace!
