Do not worry
Children's sermon
Object:
a bag of blue marbles, a bag of red marbles, a jar
For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to
everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16)
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you have ever played marbles? (let them answer) Marbles is a fun game but not many people play it anymore. Usually you have many different colored marbles and you place them in a circle. Each player has a bigger marble, called a shooter, and he/she uses it to try to knock a smaller marble out of the circle. The person with the most marbles wins the game.
Today, I want to use the marbles to teach something other than the game. I want you to pretend that all of the blue marbles are Christians and all of the red marbles are Jews. We know that Christians believe in God and we also know that Jews believe in God. Christians believe that Jesus was the Son of God. Jews do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God. This is big difference.
We also know that Christians and Jews sin. Every man and woman has sinned and because we have sinned we are separated from God. That is what sin is; it is keeping God and us apart.
But God sent his Son to save us from our sins and bring us back to be with God. Let's take a look at these marbles. They are the same size; they are round and roll the same way. They are very much alike. The difference is that this kind is red and this kind is blue.
According to the Bible, both the Jews and the non-Jews have faith in God and because of that faith both kinds of people will be saved by our faith in God. We may come from different directions but we will all end in the same place and that is with God.
The Bible teaches us that we do not need to worry about the Jews for God will accept their faith as a living faith. We will also be saved because of our faith. (take the blue marbles and pour them into a jar and then pour the red marbles into the same jar) Our faith, our belief in Jesus as the Son of God and the Jews' belief in God will allow us to share the same love and future with the living God. Amen.
