Embarrassed
Children's sermon
Object:
Pictures of yourself when you were younger
What does "embarrassing" mean to you? We get embarrassed
whenever we say or do something that is less than what we think
of ourselves. For example, I have some pictures of myself when I
was much younger. These pictures are a little embarrassing to me
because I am so different from what I was then.
Today's reading is about embarrassment -- making a fool of oneself. Jesus told a story about a man who thought he had everything he ever needed in life. He had plenty of food, clothing, shelter, friends, family -- he had it all! But there was something very, very important that he had forgotten. He had forgotten God. God is more important than food, clothing, shelter, friends, or family. God is the most important part of our lives.
In the story Jesus told, the man had everything, but now it was time for him to return to God and God was not in his life. He was called a "fool." A fool is someone who does embarrassing things. He did the most embarrassing thing any of us could ever do -- he left God out of his life.
I'm glad God is an important part of your life!
