Embarrassed
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: One of the biggest fears we all have in
life is the fear of being humiliated and embarrassed. To be
called a "fool" is the ultimate put-down. Today's lesson is about
a person who thought he had everything under control but who
forgot the most important ingredient: God.
Since a photograph was used in the children's sermon, perhaps you want to ask your children about photographs they might have had taken of them that were embarrassing (such as naked photographs when they were very young or those awful first photos taken in the hospital).
The story Jesus tells as a result of being asked to be arbitrator in an inheritance dispute stands on its own. It focuses nicely on the problem of trying to control our lives and leaving God out of the picture. All of us must deal with our mortality. We can have it all and yet lose everything because God is absent. There is something more important than money and worldly goods. God is that essential and primary "something."
