Endure pain
Children's sermon
Object:
a bandage on your finger
Good morning, boys and girls. I'm wearing a bandage on my
finger this morning. I cut my finger earlier this week and it is
now healing. When I cut it, it really hurt. How many of you have
had bad cuts or scrapes lately? (Let them answer.) Have any of
you ever had broken bones? (Let them answer.) That really hurts,
too, doesn't it?
How do you feel when you have to put on a bandage? (Let them answer.) It hurts doesn't it? It doesn't hurt, however, if you see someone else with a bandage, does it? You might see the pain in the person, but you don't feel the pain. It might hurt, however, if that someone else is a very good friend. If you saw your mother or father get cut -- even though you aren't the one getting cut -- it might make you feel bad because you are very close to that person. You feel bad when a close friend is hurt.
That's the way it is with Jesus. He suffered on the cross for us. We don't feel his pain, but we see his hurt. The Bible tells us that we are healed by Jesus' wounds. That means that Jesus took all our wrongs with him when he was placed on the cross. He suffered for us. Because of that we are forgiven for the things that we do to others that are wrong.
This is part of our Christian faith. We all do things that are wrong, even though we try to be good. Our Christian faith tells us that Jesus suffered for us and that his wounds healed us so that we can live a better life.
