Ever ready
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Both of today's lessons have to do with
preparation for the day when Jesus returns. Earthly death and
eternal life in heaven are mysteries to us all. We are best
prepared when we understand that this life is temporary. This
life is like living in a tent while our eternal mansion is being
completed. And yet we dare not denigrate the importance of this
life and dare not glamorize death.
*Ask why a battery company would call their batteries "Ever ready." Talk about the importance of being prepared. Faithfulness involves being prepared. They go together.
*Follow up on any discussions carried over from last week's lessons concerning the saints and their remembrance among us. The grief work that may have begun last week can continue this week in the hope which today's lessons give the believer.
*Explore the topic: How Do We Prepare For Jesus?
*Today's parable is about a wedding feast. While marriages today are quite different from the one pictured by the parable, they still take great amounts of preparation. Ask the children about a wedding they may have attended and what preparations were needed for the occasion. Tie those preparations to the Gospel text about preparing for Jesus' coming.
