Faith makes us well
Children's sermon
Object:
a prescription bottle
Good morning! As we read the Gospels, we hear of a lot of
people who were sick and Jesus healed them. Once, when I was
sick, I went to the doctor and he gave me this. (Show the
bottle.) I took the pills just as he told me, and I did get well.
Do you think that's how Jesus healed people? Did he give
them a prescription? (Let them answer.) No, Jesus didn't give
them any kind of medicine. He made them well by using his divine
power. He could make people well just by speaking a word, but
sometimes he would ask them to do something before they were
healed. He didn't do that because he needed to do it in order to
heal them. He did it so they would have faith; so that they would
believe in him. Jesus knew that it was more important for people
to believe in him than to be cured of some kind of sickness.
After all, what's the worst thing that can happen to you if you
are sick? (Let them answer.) Well, if you are really sick, you
could die, and that's certainly bad, but if you die and you
believe in Jesus, is that the end of your life? (Let them
answer.) No, it isn't. If you believe in Jesus, you will never
die. You will go to Heaven and live there forever.
So it is much more important to have faith than it is to be
healed of some sickness. Let's thank God for giving us faith so
that we are healed of sin and can live forever.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for giving us faith so that
we can believe in Jesus and be healed of sin and go to Heaven to
live there forever with Jesus. Amen.
