Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: One is never too young to learn
faithful stewardship practices. It is never too early to teach
children the concept that everything is God's and we are
caretakers of the gifts God gives us. Even the concept of the
tithe and first fruits giving are incorporated in this children's
sermon.
*There are some excellent board games on stewardship practices. Check your church library or talk to your pastor about these. Several fraternal insurance companies make such games available at low or no charge.
*Set up your own board game using play money.
*Invite the stewardship chair of your congregation to speak to your children about stewardship.
*Use offering envelopes for church and/or Sunday school offerings.
Parents: Show your children how you distribute your income. Especially point out the need we have to give to God so that God's work can be done. Children are only vaguely aware of the costs of running a household. Show them that it does cost money to watch television, take a shower, dress for school, and eat breakfast.
Looking ahead:
If you use paper crowns next week, you will want to prepare them ahead of time. This can be done this Sunday by the children or you can have it done by next Sunday. If the children prepare the crowns, ask them why they think they are making crowns for next Sunday. Give them a little suspense.
