Finding a saint
Children's sermon
Object:
none
Good morning! Today is All Saints' Sunday. Can anyone tell
me what that is? What's a saint? (Let them answer.) I know for
sure that there are some saints right here in this church today,
and I want you to help me find one so we can see what a saint
looks like. __________ (Name a child), I want you to go out in
the congregation, pick somebody who looks like a saint and bring
him/her up here (Let the child go out and pick somebody.)
Okay, ___________ has brought this saintly person up here to
us. Let's ask some questions to see if he/she is really a saint.
First question: Have you lived a perfect life without committing
any sins? (Let them answer.) No, of course not. None of us have
done that. In fact, there isn't anybody in the whole world who
has done that and yet, there are a lot of saints in the world
right now. So we know that living a perfect life isn't what makes
somebody a saint.
Okay, second question: Have you done some great thing for
God, like bringing two or three hundred people into the church or
telling people in some foreign land about Jesus? (Let them
answer.) No, not many people have done those things, and yet,
there are a lot of saints sitting here in this church today, so
we know that it isn't doing some great work that makes people
saints. Well, then, what is it that makes people saints?
Let me ask you one final question: Do you believe that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God and that he died on the cross to pay for
your sins? (Let them answer.) Good! That means you are a saint
because everybody who believes that is a saint of God. (Let the
person return to his/her seat.)
___________, you did a good job. You really did find a
saint. Of course, it wasn't that hard because the church is full
of saints. Everybody who believes in Jesus as their Savior is a
saint, so are all of you saints? (Let them answer.) Today is All
Saints' Sunday and all of us are saints. This is our Sunday!
Let's thank God for making us His saints.
Dear Father: We thank You for making us Your saints and for
promising us eternal life with You because we believe in Your
Son, Jesus. Amen.
