"Finding that which was lost"
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: These parables about finding something
that was lost speak to our duty as Christians to reach out to the
lost of this world with the saving Gospel message of salvation in
Christ. Children need to be aware that God wants us to be His
agents to reach those who still do not believe in Jesus as their
Savior.
*Hide some pictures of children around the room and ask the
children to hunt for them. You can offer a prize to the one who
finds the most. When all are found, tell them that these pictures
represent all the children in this community who don't know
Christ as their Savior. Have a discussion about how we might
actually reach the real children instead of just pictures.
*Hide a coin somewhere in the room and have the children
look for it. When it is found, read the Gospel text on the lost
coin (vv. 8-10) and relate it to the lost people of the world.
*Role-play the lost sheep parable (vv. 4-7). Let the
smallest child be the sheep and the largest child be the man who
brings the sheep home on his shoulders. Emphasize the joy God
feels over finding the lost ones.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing an evangelism hymn such as "Hark! The Voice Of Jesus
Crying" and ask for a show of hands by all who have invited
someone to church this week.
