Get rid of bad habits
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: This week's lesson, in essence, reminds Christians
to get rid of their bad habits. The lesson calls them "stumbling
blocks." Tell your students that everyone has some things about
themselves that should change. For children it might be talking
too much, forgetting to pick up toys after playing with them, not
feeding the family pet, eating too much candy, watching too much
TV and so forth. You and your students might add to this list.
Help children make a list of things they could change about themselves. Give each student a sheet of 8 1/2 by 11 paper. Have students draw a vertical line through the center. On the left side the student should draw a picture of himself and his stumbling block (eating too much candy). On the right side the student should draw a picture of himself rid of his stumbling block. (The candy is on the shelf. The child is standing in the kitchen ignoring the candy jar.) Students can label the drawing: "No More Stumbling Blocks -- Mark 9:38-50."
Parents: Your child drew a picture about a bad habit (stumbling block) that he hopes to change. Have him show his drawing. Tell your child that you have bad habits also. Identify one of these. Inform your child that you wish to change your bad habit also. Draw a picture similar to his showing your bad habit before and after. Let him help you with this project.
