Children's sermon
Object:
a table and a heavily packed suitcase, a set of weights,
or other very heavy item
(Choose a child from the group.) Danny, could you come up
here and help me for a second? I want you to take this suitcase
and and place it on the table for me. Thanks. You go ahead; I'm
going to keep going with my lesson. (Continue as if you are going
on teaching.) What? It's too hard for you? You don't think that
you are strong enough, do you? Okay, I'll help you. We can
probably do this together. (Together, lift the heavy item onto
the table. The child may return to his seat.) Thanks, Danny. That
was hard work!
In this lesson we read that temptation is a struggle for
everybody -- even people that lived a long time ago. The Bible
tells us that temptation can be like a heavy weight on us and
that sometimes we may feel like we can't deal with it all by
ourselves. The good news is that God never presents us with any
problem that is too much for us. He always gives us a way to
handle it, even though we may not know how.
When you get into a situation that is hard for you to deal
with, ask God to show you how. Trust that God would never give
you something too heavy for you to handle. He can help you figure
something out, just as he has done for other people for thousands
of years.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you have promised us that you will give
us the strength to handle any hard situation that comes our way.
Help us have faith in you and believe that we, with your help,
can be strong enough to deal with our burdens. Thank you so much.
