God loves us
Children's sermon
Object:
a valentine
Good morning, boys and girls. One of my favorite holidays
is Valentine's Day. I like it because I get to send
valentines to people who I love. I get to receive valentines
from people who love me, too. Do you like Valentine's Day?
(Let them answer.) I brought a valentine with me this
morning because it reminds me of what today's lesson is
about. (Show the card.) Is today Valentine's Day? (Let them
answer.) No. Valentine's Day is in February. Why would I
bring a valentine to church in the middle of summer? (Let
them answer.)
Since valentines are sent to someone who loves you, it makes sense for me to bring this one today. Today's lesson says that God loves us. That's why I brought my valentine. The lesson says that God loves everyone of us. He loves us so much that he sent all of us a valentine -- the valentine was Jesus, his son!
The lesson also says something very interesting about God. I want to share it with you. It says that God loves us even when we do things that are wrong. Sometimes all of us do the wrong thing, don't we? When I do something that I know is wrong, I try to think of the valentine God sent me. Who is that valentine? (Let them answer.) Jesus! When I think of Jesus, I remember that I must try to do what is right. Today is not Valentine's Day. But it is a day that God loves us. He loves us so much that he sent us Jesus, his son.
