God Is Over All
Children's Activity
Object:
Parents or Teachers: The lesson today was about the Sadducees trying to
trick Jesus with their involved question about a woman who marries each
of seven brothers after each one dies. They wanted to know whose wife
she would be in the resurrection. Jesus' answer was that God is the God of
the living. It seemed to satisfy the Sadducees. Children always have tons
of questions and it seems that they, too, are satisfied with simple
answers at young ages. As they grow, they are less satisfied with simple
answers but are more willing to accept that all questions do not have
answers. The theme of the lesson is that God is the God of the living. Even
that is confusing. Today's activity is making a picture of a giant umbrella
on a 12 inch by 18 inch piece of construction paper. If you have a large
number of children, you may want to make more than one umbrella.
Decorate it together and print GOD IS OVER ALL on the top of the umbrella
to remind us that no matter what the question, God has all the answers
even though we may not understand. Give each child a 3 inch by 5 inch card
and help them print a question on it. It might be something about God, the
Bible, a Bible character or story or about church. Put the questions under
the umbrella with staples or tape. Talk about the answers to their
questions together. Some questions may have simple answers. Some
answers may be just opinions from all those listening. Some questions
may not have answers at all. Encourage children to keep asking questions
even when there are no answers.
