God says, "Yes"
Children's sermon
Object:
one die and some candy
Good morning! I brought something good for you this morning!
What do I have here? (Show the candy and let them answer.) Yes,
this is candy and I assume that all of you would like some. Is
that right? (Let them answer.)
Okay, here's what I'm going to do. You see this die in my
hand? This die has six sides. We're going to let the die decide
whether or not you get some candy. If the die comes up with an
even number, 2, 4 or 6, you all get some candy. If it comes up
with an odd number, 1, 3 or 5, you don't. What do you think about
that? Do you all like that? (Let them answer.)
The problem with that arrangement is that there is just as
good a possibility that you won't get the candy as there is that
you will. How do you think we could improve your chances? (Let
them answer.) Well, we could increase the numbers that allow you
to win. For instance, we could say that you would get the candy
if we rolled any number except six. That would really improve
your chances of winning. Or, we could go even further and say
that you would all get the candy no matter what number we rolled.
How would you like that? (Let them answer.)
You know, God has arranged things for us like that. If we
ask Him for anything that we need and He knows that it is good
for us, He always says, "Yes." We don't have to wonder whether He
will be there for us when we need Him. He always says, "Yes."
Aren't you glad we have a God that is like that? (Let them
answer.)
This morning, I want to be like God and say, "Yes," to you
if you want some candy, so let's roll the die and if any number
comes up, you get the candy. (Roll the die and give them the
candy.)
Let's thank God for always saying, "Yes," when we ask for
something we need.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for promising to say, "Yes,"
when we ask you for whatever we need and You know that it is the
right thing for us. For all Your many gifts we thank You. Amen.
