math flash cards with addition and subtraction
How many of you know some math? Let's see who here knows how
to add -- raise your hands. (Hold up the first flash card with an
addition problem on it. Keep it very simple so that even the very
young can understand. The first card might be "2+2".) What is the
answer to this problem? In other words if I hold up two fingers
on this hand and two fingers on the other hand -- the total is
four. Very good. Now let's try another addition problem. (Hold up
a second card with a more difficult problem on it.) What is the
answer to this math problem?
How do you know this is an addition problem? (Let them answer.) You know it is an addition problem because of the plus sign. Whenever we see the plus sign, we know we have an addition problem.
Does the addition sign, the plus sign, remind you of anything? (If you are wearing a cross, you might point to it at this point.) The plus sign reminds me of the cross.
The cross is the biggest plus sign in history. Because of the cross, we get eternal life added to our lives! Sometimes when I do a math problem with a plus to it, I think about Jesus and how he went to the cross to add so much to my life. And sometimes when I look at the cross I think of what a plus sign it is in my life. I am so glad to have the cross in my life. I am sorry Jesus had to die on the cross, but I'm glad he gave me eternal life for what he did. He added so much to my life!
