God's Word

A dictionary
Whenever someone speaks to us, it is with words. Whenever
someone writes to us, it is words that person uses. As you learn
to read and write in school, you will discover how very important
words are. To me, a dictionary like this shows the importance of
words. Almost all the words we will ever use in our entire lives
are in this one book. Words are the main way we speak to one
another and communicate with one another. God uses words, too.
Today we read that "Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son...." God used the prophets and their words to speak to God's own people. But then God chose a better way to speak to us. God spoke to us in his son Jesus. Jesus is God's Word!
If our parents or grandparents tell us they love us, that is wonderful. If they write us letters and tell us they love us, that also is wonderful. But we really know they love us when they treat us with love. They hug us and speak kindly to us and show us by their actions they love us. Then we really know they love us.
In the same way, we know of God's love through the words of the prophets and the words of the Bible, but the most important word is Jesus ---- God's Word made flesh. That is the real message of Christmas.
Dear God: Bless us this Christmas with Jesus ---- your Word. Amen.
