God's word
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: In the middle of all the activity
surrounding Christmas is an important message -- often obscured
by everything else. The message is that we can learn something
about God and God's intentions for us in the person and life of
Jesus. Jesus is God's Word made flesh.
The issue is God's revelation to us. The epistle lesson shows how a mirror can be revealing to us just as Jesus is revealing -- a mirror -- of God. The Gospel shows how words can reveal thoughts. Jesus is God's word making God's thoughts plain to us.
*Get a camcorder and videotape your student(s). Then play the tape back. Ask them, "Do you look like you thought you looked? Do you sound like that?" Ask them about what the camera revealed to them that was new and unexpected.
Tell how Jesus is like a camcorder of God. We cannot see God or hear, touch, or otherwise perceive God -- except through Jesus. In Jesus we have a picture of God.
*If a camcorder is not readily available, use an ordinary cassette tape recorder/player.
