Going and coming
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Children fear abandonment. Many children
get anxious when their parents leave them with a babysitter for
an evening. They wonder if their parents will return.
The disciples, too, needed Jesus' assurance that his going was not forever. He was going but he would come again. Children need to know this about their parents and they need to know it about their God.
Ask the children if any of them are afraid of the dark. Some will be. Ask them what makes them feel better about darkness. They will probably reply that the presence of a loved one makes them feel much better in darkness.
Explain to the children that this is how faith in God works in the lives of each of us. God is a loved One who is present in our darkest nights as well as our brightest days.
