A newspaper article about a heroic act
I have here an article in the paper about a person who ...
(relate the newspaper story). What this person did was a very
brave and unselfish act. Do you think this person is a good
example for all of us? (Let them answer.)
On the night before he died, Jesus did something that he
wanted to be a good example for all of us. He got down on his
hands and knees and washed the feet of all his disciples. Now, why
do you suppose Jesus did that? (Let them answer.)
Jesus wanted to show the disciples that we should all be
willing to serve each other. Washing feet was the job of the
lowliest servant in the house. By washing their feet, Jesus was
showing the disciples and us that we should show our love for each
other by being willing to do the most lowly chores for each other.
Do you think that was a good example? (Let them answer.)
Are there any jobs around your house that everyone really
hates to do, but they just have to be done by someone? (Let them
answer.) Do you think we could show our love for our family by
volunteering to do these kinds of jobs now and then? (Let them
answer.) Yes, I think that would be a way to show our love and
then we would be a good example for our family, just like Jesus
was a good example for his disciples.
Dear Lord Jesus: We thank you for setting such a good example for
us. Help us to be a good example for the people around us. Amen.
