Children's Activity
Object:
SHARING THIS WEEK'S GOSPEL THEME AT SUNDAY SCHOOL AND AT
HOME
Materials:
Wax crayons (less expensive brands work best -- this is a good use for those old broken crayons)
Iron
Ironing board
Scrap paper
Waxed paper
Pencil sharpener
White computer paper
Construction paper
Pen
Scissors
Glue sticks
Directions:
1. Have an adult plug in the iron and set it on medium without steam. Cover the ironing board with scrap paper.
2. Give each of the children a rectangle of waxed paper and have them fold it in half and then unfold it.
3. Have the children take the paper off some crayons and twist them in the pencil sharpener, letting the shavings drop onto half of the waxed paper. Encourage them to be creative and use several colors. When they have a small pile of shavings, have the children refold the waxed paper. Tell the children to make a fold all the way around the waxed paper rectangle to keep the wax from oozing out.
4. Have an adult cover the waxed paper with white computer paper and iron carefully for about ten seconds or until all the crayons have melted. Let them cool.
5. Have each of the children create a frame from construction paper.
6. Help the children glue their frames around the waxed-paper creations.
7. Help the children cut cross shapes from construction paper and glue them in the center of their "stained glass" creations.
