Greet one another
Children's sermon
Object:
a bag of Hershey kisses
Well, boys and girls, our lesson today is a short one. It's only three verses. In case it was over before you got a chance to hear it, let me read it again for you. Listen carefully, because we're going to talk about it in a minute. (read vv. 11-13) These words tell us how to treat one another. What are some of the things we should do? (share for a moment)
See what I have today? (show the children the bag of kisses) Kisses! I love kisses -- the chocolate kind and the real kind. One of the verses says that we should greet one another with a "holy kiss." I don't think that means chocolate kisses, but I think we are supposed to love one another and greet one another with genuine affection. We are God's children. We are a part of God's family and each of us is precious. We are to love one other like God loves us.
Another part reminds us to agree with one another and live in peace. We should treat each other carefully and try hard to get along. We are supposed to take care of each other. Life can be very hard sometimes. People do things that hurt each other. Well, Jesus taught us how to treat each other. We can help one another get through the hard things and help each other be strong when we are tired of trying to do the right things. It would be very easy to live the way the rest of the world lives, but we know that there is a better way.
So, the next time you get together with your friends, greet one another with a holy kiss. No, you don't have to really kiss each other. You can pat each other on the back and tell your friends how important they are to you. Right now, though, does anyone want one of the chocolate kisses?
Prayer: God, thank you for friends who care for us. Amen.
