Growing weeds
Children's Activity
Object:
Materials:
Paper
Markers, pens, pencils
Scissors
Matches (for adults only)
A container to burn paper in that will not melt or burn
Directions:
1.
Reread the story used for the children's message for July 17, 2005, to the class.
2.
Ask the children if they have any "weeds" in their lives and ask them if they would like to get rid of those weeds.
3.
Have each child take a piece of paper and write down the things he/she would like to get rid of. Ask the children if they would like to share with the group or if they want to keep it between them and God.
4.
After each child has written down their weed, have him/her fold it and put it in the container by the teacher.
5.
After the children have all put their "weeds" in the container, the teacher will burn the weeds and the children will remain as the pure grain, or sin-free.
Make sure that this is only done under the supervision of the teacher and that no children are around the flame during the time of burning. It may be best to take the container outdoors before burning, especially if your church is equipped with automatic sprinklers.
