"Hang on!"
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: It is not always easy to be a
Christian. Our children need to learn how to hold on to their
faith in spite of all the pressures, especially peer pressure, to
do things that are not in keeping with a Christian way of life.
Jesus reminds us in this Gospel text that the world will pressure
us, but we need to endure until the end.
*Have the children draw pictures of what they think is the
strongest thing in the world. Have them share their pictures and
discuss the strength of the various things they drew. If nobody
drew God, show a picture that represents God and explain that He
is the strongest thing. Then talk about how we can use His
strength to overcome the world and endure.
*Pick two or three of the strongest children and have them
run a predetermined course (weather permitting, outside). Explain
that if they can run the course in a time limit you set, everyone
in the group will be rewarded with whatever gift you want to give
them. When they are finished, you can discuss "endurance" as it
relates to our faith.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing "Oh, For A Faith That Will Not Shrink" or another hymn
that stresses how we need God's help to endure the world's
pressures. Have them memorize the first verse of the song.
