Have No Fear
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: The theme in both lessons this week is
faith. Both lessons use a blindfold to illustrate faith. The
gospel especially relates faith to fear. If we believe in God's
love and provision for us, then we need not have fear. This was
Jesus' teaching. He went so far as to suggest that we sell our
possessions and give the proceeds to the poor so that we are not
tempted to have faith in our belongings.
The "trust walk" (first lesson) is an active faith game. By blindfolding a subject and leading that person around we demonstrate trust. The same can be done with fear. We can demonstrate that faith in God eliminates unnecessary fear.
The "trust fall" is another demonstration of faith. Let volunteers fall backward into the hands of several trusted adults. They can fall straight back (and may repeatedly try to catch themselves as they fall). They know the adults can be trusted and yet they are constantly tempted not to trust -- to be afraid and try to catch themselves.
