Have patience
Children's sermon
Object:
a wrapped Christmas present with candy or other favors
inside
Good evening! Can anybody tell me why we are in church
tonight? (Let them answer.) Yes, this is Christmas Eve, and that
means tomorrow is Christmas. What happens in your family on
Christmas? (Let two or three talk about what their family does on
Christmas.)
Do any of you have these under your Christmas tree? (Show
the present and let them answer.) Are you anxious to open some of
these presents? (Let them answer.) Yes, I imagine you are
anxious. It's hard to be patient and wait till the right time
comes, but we just have to do it. We have to wait until Christmas
is here to open our presents.
Just as you and I are waiting for Christmas to come, the
people in Israel 2000 years ago were also waiting for the Savior
of the world to be born. But, their patience was rewarded because
he was born in Bethlehem, and it's the birth of Jesus that we
will celebrate tomorrow. When you open your presents tomorrow,
whose birthday are we celebrating? (Let them answer.) Yes, we are
celebrating the birthday of Jesus, but instead of giving presents
to him, we give them to each other.
I'm going to let you open one present right now. This
present is for all of you, so let's open it. (Let them open the
present and share the contents.)
Let's say a prayer now thanking God for His great gift that
He gave to us on that first Christmas.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for giving us the wonderful
gift of Your Son, Jesus. As we celebrate his birth, keep us ever
mindful that he is the reason for the season. Amen.
