Have a tissue
Children's sermon
Object:
a box of tissues
Good morning, boys and girls. I want to talk about tears this morning, so I brought a box of tissues. What kinds of things make you cry? (let them answer) Sometimes we cry because we fall down and scrape our knees. Sometimes we cry when we're too tired. Sometimes we cry when we're sad or when someone else teases us or yells at us. There are lots of reasons to cry.
When you cry, what happens to your face? (let them answer) Tears come from your eyes. Your nose runs and you need to wipe it. That's where this box of tissues comes in. If you fall down and your mom or dad sees it or hears you crying, what might they do? (let them answer) Most of your parents would come and bring you a tissue and wipe your nose and your tears and probably give you a hug.
Would all this extra attention make you feel better? (let them answer) It surely would. It feels good to have someone care about you and show their love and concern for you.
Our lesson today says that God is like our parents and will wipe away every tear when we get to heaven. Do you think God has a big closet with thousands of boxes of tissues? (let them answer)
It's nice to know that God cares what happens to us. God sees all the terrible things on earth. God sees people going hungry. God sees sick people in the hospital. God cares when you are hurt a little and also when you are hurt a lot. God sees when someone is mean to you on the playground. God cares when you are sad because you don't have anyone to play with. On earth we have parents and family and friends who care about us. They wipe away our tears when we cry and feel sad. When we see someone hurt, we can help them and wipe away their tears. But it's a warm feeling to know that someone else sees and cares about all of us, and that someone is God. God will wipe away every tear from our eyes when we get to heaven.
